Safety comes first — lit steps, grade changes, and walkways are where people stop turning an ankle in the dark. Security follows: a property with no dark approaches is a less appealing one to walk up to.
Then there is the reason most people actually call. A landscape lit well looks better at night than it does during the day, because you light what deserves attention and let everything else go dark.
Designed, not just installed
The common mistake is symmetrical fixtures marching down both sides of a walk, which reads as a runway. Good lighting is asymmetric and restrained — fewer fixtures, aimed deliberately, with the source hidden and the effect visible.
We plan the layout against what the property has worth lighting: a specimen tree, a stone wall, an entry. Modern LED systems draw little power and last for years, so the design decisions matter more than the wattage.
Common questions
- Can lighting be added to an existing landscape?
- Yes, and most installs are exactly that. Low-voltage runs can be trenched into established beds and lawns with minimal disturbance — more disruptive under finished hardscape, which is why integrated lights are easiest to plan during a build.
- How much does landscape lighting cost to run?
- Very little with LED. A modern low-voltage system running a few hours a night is a small line on the power bill, which is the main reason halogen systems have almost entirely been replaced.
- Will it work in winter?
- Yes — fixtures and transformers are built for outdoor conditions year round. Winter is when lighting earns the most, since it is dark by late afternoon. Keeping fixtures clear during snow removal is the only seasonal consideration.
- Can I control it from my phone?
- Modern systems support timers, photocells, and app-based control, including zones and scheduling. We spec the controls to what you actually want to manage.
