The pattern you choose for a paver patio or driveway isn't just about looks — it affects structural integrity, maintenance, and long-term performance. Here are the layouts we install most often and where each one shines.
Running bond: the classic choice
Offset rows that resemble brickwork. It works well with rectangular pavers and creates a sense of visual movement, which makes it a strong pick for pathways and driveways.
Herringbone: maximum strength
The strongest installation method for pavers, with pavers set at angles in either a 45-degree or 90-degree orientation. It's the go-to for load-bearing surfaces like driveways.
Basketweave: traditional elegance
Alternating horizontal and vertical paver pairs create a woven texture. It works best with square or 2:1 rectangular pavers and brings an informal, classic look with moderate structural strength.
Circular & fan patterns
These make striking focal points but require specialized cutting and skilled installation. They're ideal for defining a specific zone or working in color contrasts.
Choosing a pattern
The right choice balances the look you want against durability, budget, and maintenance — and how the space will actually be used. We'll walk you through the trade-offs for your site.
